Lissa Kam - DVM
Dr. Kam has been practicing veterinary medicine for 30 years. She graduated from Colorado State University with a veterinary degree in 1984. Knowing that Hawaii was her home, and would be where she wanted to practice, she joined Dr. Kwai Fong Choy at Kapalama Pet Hospital for 10 years and then Dr. Suellen Kotake at the All Pets Clinic in Waipahu until September of 1995. She was also a relief veterinarian for various veterinary practices and began a house call practice to service her patients island wide.
In October of 1995, Dr. Kam had the good fortune of finding an office space at the Waiakamilo Shopping Center where she built her own practice. Although starting a new business is filled with many obstacles, her clients, family and friends encouraged her to make that step and build a practice that we could all call "home". On May 13, 1996, Ohana Veterinary Hospital Inc. opened its doors to clients and the community and has become a growing and successful practice.
Although most of Dr. Kam's time is dedicated to Ohana Veterinary Hospital, she is not short of energy or interests. She was the first woman President of the Hawaii Veterinary Medical Association and the Honolulu Veterinary Society. For the past 26 years she has successfully chaired and organized the annual Hawaii Pet Expo and raised sizable donations for the Hawaii Food Bank. When time allows, Dr Kam enjoys ikebana, where her colorful floral arrangements decorate her home and her pet hospital. She continues to have a menagerie of her own pets which include 2 guinea pigs and a very rambunctious Jack Russell Mix named Rosco. Dr Kam also fosters guinea pigs for the Humane Society when they need some extra nursing care before adoption.
